What is Practical Legal Training?

You’ve finished your degree, and you’re nearly ready to head out into the legal world, but there’s a final step: Practical Legal Training. With Justice Connect, you can do your training and make a real difference in people’s lives. Sharpen your skills while working to help people facing disadvantage and contribute to a cause you’re passionate about – access to justice.

It’s also a great way to meet new people, gain practical experiences and develop career-related professional skills and networks with a respected and established legal charity.

Justice Connect regularly recruits PLT students to work in our Melbourne and Sydney Offices with our Not-for-profit Law, Homeless Law, Seniors Law, Self Representation Service and Public Interest Law teams.

Am I eligible?

  • You must have completed a law degree
  • You must be currently completing professional legal education to gain admission to practice
(ie. through College of Law, Australian National University or equivalent institution)
  • You must be willing to undertake a minimum of 50 days of practical legal training at Justice Connect
  • You must not be currently admitted as a lawyer. Lawyers will not be considered.

Justice Connect’s offices are CBD based. PLT placements are volunteer positions, and unpaid. Before making an application we encourage you to read about the work of Justice Connect and our programs. We place PLT students within programs on an as-needed basis. While we attempt to place successful applicants within the program that best suits their area of interest, we cannot guarantee this will be the case.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are highly encouraged to apply.

PLEASE NOTE: Unfortunately Justice Connect cannot give individual feedback on all applications. Due to the high number of applications Justice Connect received for PLT positions only shortlisted applicants will be notified if they are successful or otherwise.
